. . . took a long time to get here, but been playing music and singing for years now. First CD was called THIRTEEN SONGS, recorded with Hugh Birdsall and other friends on various instruments at various stages. Released in 2001 after years of playing around. Connected somehow with British artist Edori Fertig for cover art on THIRTEEN SONGS. Got a job writing novelty songs, mostly Christmas tunes, for a NYC company with a factory in Hong Kong, that makes toys that sing when you tickle them. Snowman Melting and Santa in a Sled waiting to take off. Toys like that. Ended up with an overflow of songs that Mr. Christmas couldn't use even if he wanted to. Put ten of those tunes on a CD called CHRISTMAS LEFTOVERS. Carols and Novelty-songs overflowing with the Christmas spirit and the joy of the season. Been writing songs for Kids and their folks forever, and began playing more and more in schools, at summer family picnics and wherever children gather. Released IF YOU WANT A DONUT in 2002. Ten original tunes. And god how the people loved them! Even old people. Began working on BLINDMAN in 2003 with producer Jim Nolet, that NYC session player extraordinaire on all and various stringed instruments; with Chris Anderson, trumpet player from Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes; and with Eduardo Mandoca, noted Brazilian percusionist and band leader, brought in special with his sack of rattles and shakers. Couldn't believe a guy named Charles Ray had a painting he called Blindman that fit so well into the jewel case that houses the BLINDMAN cd. The album covers alone are worth the price of the record . . . And some folks probably buy them just for that. Initial reactions and reviews of BLINDMAN couldn't have been better. Every reviewer so far recommends you get your hands on this one, and try to find the others. Most songs and albums are available on Apple i-tunes, Napster and most digital download services. Or check out on-line record store CD Baby.com for sales and promos.
A left wing rant was released as an EP on the internet - written as the 2004 election returns were coming in. Good Ol' Jesus it's called - Made top of some political press charts - rated as a must-listen by Topplebush.com . Sure was a surprise to hear from a couple of Baptist ministers, one in the south, moved by the message who used this song as the basis for a sermon or two available on podcast - check out crossleft.blogspot.com/2005/11 if you want to hear someone preaching to the tune of Good Ol' Jesus!.
Newest CD released in 2007 is AMERICAN SONGS. Mostly originals, with some covers of traditional songs. Bicycle Built for Two and Old Dan Tucker are new words to old songs. Little Sadie, House of New Orleans and Little Light are new arrangements of traditional songs. The rest are newly written songs, coming from that same dark place so many American folk songs come from, smelling of hot dogs and warm beer. Morphine is true; it's a cowboy song, an American lament like Nice and Short is an American lament. And then there are the love songs. Hold On Henry, Girl with the Yellow Hair, Hootenanny Blues and the others. American songs all, and as true as God Bless America is now or ever will be. The cover and back photos on that one were taken good friend Bill Hurshman, who was there at the Hootenanny when Carlotta sang out for the first time and Sarah showed up with her new husband. That's Southside Johnny's Chris Anderson on trumpet and Stephen Chapman on back-up vocals. Sorry to lose Stephen on Christmas 2008. He's sure missed. On this CD Kevin played the acoustic and electric guitars, the bass, Hammond B-3 organ, harmonica - and the upright piano on Morphine. Jim Nolet came in again from Seattle for four days with his fiddle and mandolin. Carlotta Rose and Emily K., Genie Raven and Julia Engel sang back-up in a garage studio in the Adirondacks on a couple of tunes. J.P. sang "Oh no!" on Little Sadie . . . And so there you have it, just what we all need - twelve more recordings of American Songs.
OTHER NEWS - RECENT SIGHTINGS Have a program of FDR / Drepression era songs and memories that has played well in New Jersey - First Played this show at Union County College Oct 16 for record amounts of money. Otherwise I'm making a living playing for kids in New York City most days - and older folks here and there several evenings a week. And hitting the occasional club or outdoor festival with other players. Not too good at updating this web site, but we'll list public events here as they come up - about a third of the time. Had a face book account, but two people wrote in asking to be friends, and it was overwhelming, so that was cancelled post haste de facto.
Send a check or money order with your special needs and we'll mail out CD's as requested.

KEVIN KANE CHRISTMAS LEFTOVERS
from the liner notes . . .
The last couple of years I've done some work for a company that makes toys that sing and dance when you touch them. Most of the toys I've been working on lean toward Christmas and the holiday season. I've written songs for melting snowmen, dancing Santas, elves, reindeer and jiggling Nativity Sets. The songs I write are optioned for use for one year and then rights revert to me. And so what am I going to do with a bunch of Christmas demos? Send them to my friends and neighbors a week before Christmas maybe? That seemed appropriate. And no matter what you hear, there is not an irreverent word in any of these little songs of the season. There are expressions of joy and wonder, a sampling for your holiday pleasure - though admitedly songs originally written for a less noble purpose.
1 That Little Fat Man
2 Santa in the Tub
3 Mary and Joe
4 Marley was Dead
5 Christmas at Graceland
